SUMMARY:Developing the Stylized World of The Wild Robot
DESCRIPTION:Jeff Budsberg, Baptiste Van Opstal, Lisa Connors, Mike Necci,
and James Jackson (DreamWorks Animation)\n\nThe Wild Robot follows the jou
rney of Roz, a high-tech robot stranded on a remote island. In the film,
we accentuate this juxtaposition of nature and technology stylistically–a
futuristic machined precision amongst a deconstructed, painterly world. T
he style of the film serves the story–Roz does not initially belong on the
island, stylistically. To that goal, we reimagined every workflow to ret
ain the immediacy and fluidity of an artist's hand.\n\nThis production ses
sion features the development and technical challenges required to accompl
ish the film's unique look. Ultimately, our goal throughout every departm
ent was to incorporate the endearing qualities of traditional painting and
2D animation, while maintaining the richness and sophistication of a 3D s
pace. These hand-crafted elements give the audience an immersive, imagina
tive experience and support the emotional intent of the story.\n\nInterest
