SUMMARY:CryoScapes: Landscape Painting with Water, Ice, and AI
DESCRIPTION:Jiabao Li (University of Texas Austin, University of Tokyo) an
d Ziyuan Jiang, Kuan-Ju Wu, and Yasuaki Kakehi (University of Tokyo)\n\nCr
yoScapes began during Jiabao Li’s Arctic Circle Artist Residency in Svalba
rd, inspired by water’s diverse forms—vapor, snow, waves, glaciers, and se
a ice. The team developed a 3D ice printing system to create intricate scu
lptures that evolve with temperature changes. Roaming water droplets freez
e on hydrophobic or hydrophilic treated surfaces, forming landscapes that
blur the sense of scale, from lunar terrains to microscopic crystalline pa
tterns. A macro camera captures the evolving formations in real time, whil
e AI searches for nature-like patterns and composes them into Haiku-inspir
ed poems. As CryoScapes travels to different cities, it co-creates with lo
cal conditions—temperature, humidity, and water mineral content—blurring t
he line between the artificial and the natural.\n\nInterest Area: Arts & D
