SUMMARY:Autodesk Vision Series | Sinners: Smoke, Stack… and the Stuff You
 Missed – ILM’s Invisible Touch
DESCRIPTION:Join Production VFX Supervisor, Michael Ralla and ILM VFX Supe
rvisor Nick Marshall as they reveal how ILM’s most sophisticated work was
designed to vanish into the frame. While the twinning of Smoke & Stack sta
nds out, ILM’s VFX work was designed to be indistinguishable from live-act
ion IMAX photography. Working from previs and concept art, the generalist
team at ILM Vancouver used 3ds Max to create a fully digital, period-accur
ate Clarksdale train station with a full Pullman train and integrated the
results seamlessly into 65mm film footage.\n\nTo match Autumn Durald Arkap
aw’s analog aesthetic, ILM developed custom digital lens profiles workflow
and Compositors were trained to work with scanned film, embracing cellulo
ids’ imperfections as intentional —not flaws. This is invisible VFX at its
finest— crafted not to be seen, but to be believed.\n\nInterest Area: Pro
 duction & Animation\n\nKeyword: Animation\n\nRegistration Category: Full C
 onference, Experience, Exhibits Only, Tuesday\n\n
