SUMMARY:Open Access to all SIGGRAPH Papers and Other ACM-for-All Goals
DESCRIPTION:Yannis Ioannidis (Association for Computing Machinery, Univers
ity of Athens)\n\nWhat will the impact of your SIGGRAPH papers be when the
y are all offered openly to the world? How much more will they be cited? H
ow many of your research results will be reproduced when the related softw
are and datasets are openly available? In the past few months, the ACM Cou
ncil has reaffirmed thrice its intention to open access to all ACM publica
tions and related research artifacts in the ACM Digital Library after 1-1-
2026. \nTrue to its mission, which calls for "fostering the open exchange
of information", ACM demonstrates its commitment to democratization of kno
wledge, transparency, and accountability. Having the researcher-author in
mind while aiming to achieve sustainability of the Digital Library, ACM ha
s introduced ACM Open. It is an innovative open publishing model that allo
ws (clusters of) institutions or even whole countries to pay a lump sum fo
r papers published by authors affiliated with them, instead of authors pay
ing individually per paper. \nThis session will explain the details of ACM
Open and the changes it brings to publishing and disseminating research r
esults through the ACM DL and answer any questions about it. It will cast
this in the general context of Open Science, a new paradigm for navigating
the entire research lifecycle in all sciences, which ACM intends to help
our community to explore. This session will also highlight some other stra
tegic ACM initiatives aiming at improving the environment of computing sci
entists and professionals as well as the general public in an ever-changin
g world.\n\nInterest Area: Arts & Design, Gaming & Interactive, New Techno
logies, Production & Animation, Research & Education\n\nRecording: Not Liv
estreamed, Not Recorded\n\nKeyword: Education, Ethics and Society, Graphic
s Systems Architecture, Scientific Visualization\n\nRegistration Category:
  Full Conference, Experience\n\n
